Larsen’s Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

Friday, 7th September, 2007

Richard Spacer, who lives on Kauai, has been in touch to tell us about a spot where many go nude on the island these days. Larsen’s beach is a long golden hassle-free strand backed by lush vegetation, well off the beaten track. It’s reached by travelling along the Kuhio Highway (the main road on the eastern side of the island) and turning right at the Koolau Road exit. Drive approximately two miles along the winding Koolau Road and look out for a small ‘beach access’ sign which appears by a dirt track on the right immediately south of the tiny Koolau Cemetery (a white mailbox with the number 7198 on it marks the turnoff). Take the track to the car park at the end of the lane, then continue down the trail to the beach.

Also on Kauai, Richard recommends Aunty Angeline’s Hawai’ian healing homestead in Anahola, which is open for visitors (by advance arrangement only) and has a clothing-optional sundeck.
