Fuerteventura in the Canaries is one of the most popular destinations for bare beach seekers. We’ve recently identified four more holiday properties in the north of island, which are all described as being naturist friendly:

Casa Lily – one bedroomed apartments at El Cotillo

Villa Paloma – four bedrooms and pool, at Villaverde

Villa Rebecca – four bedrooms and pool, at Villaverde

Bahia Azul Villas – three bedrooms and pool, on the outskirts of Corralejo

Casa Alana at Playa Blanca, on the southern coast of the Canarian island of Lanzarote, offers modern accommodation with its own pool for a couple or a family. Handy for the nearby Papagayo nudist beaches, the three bedroomed property is described as 100% secluded and private, so suitable for naturists.

We have discovered a couple more places to stay on Gran Canaria that offer clothes-free sunbathing terraces. At the deluxe end of the market, the modern 4-star Gloria Palace Royal Hotel and Spa at Playa Amadores, near Puerto Rico on the south-west coast of the island, offers an exclusive zona nudista equipped with sunbeds, comfortable mattresses and sun umbrellas. Sea views over the attractive bay and a shower enhance the intimate bare bathing area. There are two other hotels in the group – the Gloria Palace Amadores and the Gloria Palace at San Agustin (World’s Best Nude Beaches page 159) which also have au naturel sunning areas.

Meanwhile, for those on a tighter budget, the 1-star Las Arenas Apartments in downtown Playa del Ingles have a FKK nudist terrace on the roof top of the high-rise block. The accommodation is much older, although parts of the building and some of the rooms were renovated in 2009.

Lanzarote Holidays is offering three naturist-friendly villas with their own private swimming pools in the village of Nazaret. The outdoor space at each property is described as being completely private and not overlooked. Additionally, they also have a large apartment with access to an attractive secluded pool. The company has advertised the accommodation in the naturist media.

Steve Clarke, of UK-based travel agent ‘Canarian Dreams’, has been in contact to tell us about Oceanico, – which opens in December – at El Cotillo, on the north-west coast of the island (World’s Best Nude Beaches – page 152). There are 10 new apartments, eight of which have one bedroom and two studios. The naturist accommodation has a small swimming pool and extensive sea views overlooking the La Concha lagoon, a 15-minute stroll to the north of the village. The attractive beaches in the vicinity are clothes-optional.

The 3-star Escorial Hotel in Playa del Ingles, Gran Canary has – amongst its attractions – a rooftop sun terrace with jacuzzi and nudist area. The hotel can be booked through a number of UK-based agents.

The popular Cantarrijan nude beach between Nerja and Almunecar, on the eastern Costa del Sol is no longer directly accessible by car during mid-summer. The beach is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty in a National Park and the local authority is concerned about the damage to the sensitive environment caused by a large amount of traffic driving up and down the access tracks. A regular shuttle bus now provides a service from the car park next to the N340 coast road, down to the naturist shore – fare 1 Euro. (The World’s Best Nude Beaches page 121)

Chris and Jayne offer a well-equipped apartment for two people in the heart of the fishing village of El Cotillo – on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura – that boasts a private naturist-friendly roof terrace with sunbeds, shower and shade. The nearby clothes-optional white-sand lagoons beaches begin just a 10-15 minute walk north (‘World’s Best Nude Beaches‘ page 152).

The 3-star Apartments Bellavista are situated in La Paz, a quiet residential zone at Puerto de la Cruz, on Tenerife’s north coast. All of the 186 studios have good views of the Atlantic Ocean and there is a separate nudist area on the roof-top terrace.

Brand new – opened last month (6 February) – the 180-room, 4-star  Callao Hotel is set in extensive grounds on the south-west coast of Tenerife, not far from Playa de las Americas. Sporting facilities include pitch and putt, tennis courts, padel courts, badmin­ton, squash, a nine-hole golf course, volley ball, indoor football, yoga and three swimming pools.  There’s also an extensive health and beauty spa, gymnasium and a specific area for nud­ists.

The Robinson Club family resort at Esquinzo Playa, on the south-east coast of naturist-friendly Fuerteventura, offers a choice of au naturel bathing options. A secluded adult skinny-dipping area is available at the quiet pool and also at the sauna pool. The adjacent 20-km long beach is ideal for long walks in the buff.

A traditional self-contained cottage in the rural north of Lanzarote, at Maguez, offers a completely private terrace for sunbathing au naturel. The British owned one-bedroomed property – Casita La Cabra – is only a short drive away from a choice of naturist beaches. Situated in an unspoilt area, the cottage enjoys fine rural views. More places to stay with dedicated naturist facilities in Playa del Ingles on the island of Grand Canaria – Dolores Aparthotel has a furnished nudist terrace on the roof, which enjoys panoramic views over the resort. The simple rooms at this German-run property were renovated in 2007.

El Rondo Hotel and Aparthotel Partner Playa del Ingles in the same resort, also provide au naturel sun terraces (not mentioned on the website).

John has been in touch to tell us about the naturist-friendly holiday accommodation he and his partner offer in Peniscola, on the Coasta del Azahar, north of Valencia. Rooms have ensuite bathrooms and private terraces. Additionally, there is a large communal nudist terrace with views over the sea and mountains. HON Holidays welcomes couples and singles, whether straight or gay. Close to the sea and handy for coves suitable for bare bathing, the property also offers easy access to plenty of nightlife in the local resort.

The recently built Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa on the south coast of Gran Canaria boasts a nudist solarium amongst its range of extensive facilities. Nearby, and operated by the same hotel group, the 4-star IFA Faro Hotel has an exclusive naturist terrace.

The refurbished 4-star Hotel Spa Tierra De Oro at Los Realejos, near the resort of Puerto de la Cruz – on the north coast of the island – has a nudist solarium on the rooftop. With an indoor pool, as well as an outdoor one, the resort is set in sub-tropical gardens with views overlooking the ocean.

Casa Jeni is a modern one-bedroomed holiday bungalow at Costa Calma, southern Fuerteventura, which offers private nude sunbathing. Handy for nearby clothes-optional beaches and with a large secluded garden that enjoys sun from dawn until dusk. According to the owners, “it is ideal for naturism”.

The popular naturist village on the Canarian island of Lanzarote now has a wider range of places to stay than ever. In addition to the accommodation at Charco del Palo listed in The World’s Best Nude Beaches, the Castillo de Papagayo Agency has extra apartments and villas available. Two further properties – Casa Mirador Amarillo and Casa Mirador Rojo – can be booked through Naturfreunde Lanzarote e.V. Casa del Sol Siempre is a comfortable complex of six small apartments at the naturist resort of Charco del Palo, on the Canarian island of Lanzarote. Each property has one bedroom with a kingsize double bed, a living room with an integrated kitchen and good sea views. The managers offer free transfers from the airport for anybody who prefers not to hire a car.
